Castle Rock 'Columbia Valley' Cabernet Sauvignon 2014

Member Review by Heather B:

Simple American cab. Fruit forward with light oak and a long smooth finish. Excellent with many foods. We enjoyed it with burgers, risotto and Brussels sprouts.

Really jammy smelling and tasting, if you like more fruit flavor, this isnt bad wine but a little too much up front fruit for me and not as dry and as bold as a lot of Cabs.

I would have to literally agree with the maker on this one: "This full-bodied wine offers layers of concentrated flavors of cassis, blackberry, black cherry, and ripe plum, with a hint of light oak." For the price, I loved it.

Rating 87: Wine is one of those middle of the road types nothing wrong, nothing of special interest. Very well balanced with no off flavors. Nose well balanced. Good everyday wine.

Nothing to really write home about with this medium-bodied cabernet. Interesting molasses/vanilla/black cherry flavors might be able to add to a not-so-rich meal.

Winemaker Notes - Our Castle Rock Reserve Cabernet Sauvignon is a deliciously full wine loaded with nuance and flavor. It is a deep garnet in color, and has aromas of dark cherry and molasses. On the palate it gives dark fruit flavors with a hint of cedar. The tannins are mellow, and it finishes harmoniously with long-lasting fruit flavors. It is perfect for drinking now, or it can be allowed to age and improve through 2013.

Surprisingly well concentrated for the price, this cabernet offers big, juicy flavors of blackberry jam and fresh ground coffee. Therersquo;s also a note of eucalyptus. The flavors are simple and clearly delineated, a versatile cabernet for cookouts this summer.

Normally, one has certain expectations of Cabernets in this price range. Sure, itrsquo;s ruby-colored and has a medium body like most others, but it is surprisingly more complex. With hints of cloves, chocolate and berries on the nose, earthier elements (such as tobacco) for your taste buds, and a long finish, this wine is quite a deal. Would go best with any grilled meat.

Castle Rock has always been one of our favorite domestic producers for great value reds and whites. Their 2007 Napa cab rivals many a $20 bottle, balancing elegant structure and complexity against the powerful black fruit that this region is famous for. Tea and green bell pepper notes mingle with the classic cassis and black cherry flavors, and the finish is smooth and lingering. Great buy for under $10!

A polished, smooth Cab for drinking now. Itrsquo;s soft and delicious, with herb-infused cherry, currant and cola flavors. Shows real fanciness in the tannin style structure. Easy to find, with 36,000 cases produced.

WE 87pts Best Buy - Winemakers Notes - Our 2007 Castle Rock Cabernet Sauvignon is made from grapes grown in the Napa Valley, one of California s most prestigious appellations, where the climate and soil conditions are perfect for this important varietal. This elegant fullbodied wine has a deep ruby color, has aromas of dark cherry and molasses, and is loaded with nuance and flavor. On the palate it gives flavors of black cherry, ripe plum and spice with hints of light oak. These flavors unite to form a long, smooth and harmonious finish. This wine makes an excellent companion to beef, lamb, venison, pasta dishes and most cheeses.
