Yellow-gold. Musky yellow plum and peach pit aromas are brightened by chalky minerals. Dried pit fruit flavors are fleshy and broad, picking up a succulent herb quality on the finish. The nutty, dried fruit character demands food.
Light gold. Stony, spicy scents of citrus peel, green apple and anise, with a salty mineral overlay. Fresh and taut, with the wine's minerality dominating fresh apple and pear fruit and notes of fresh herbs adding complexity. For a light wine, this has a chewy texture. Finishes brisk and persistent, with a repeating anise note.
From the Galicia region in northwest Spain, José Sotos (owner/winemaker) uses yeasts that are naturally present in his vineyards to yield an intense and expressive wine that comes from over 25 year old vines. The relatively unknown grape of Godello has brought recent attention to the Valdeorras area of Spain. The proximity to the Atlantic Ocean moderates the temperatures and provides for a longer ripening period, resulting in aromatic, fresh and lively wines. This demonstrates crispness, tangy pear and green apple flavors, and a touch of earthiness and mineral in the finish. I would suggest serving with seafood risotto, shellfish and other Mediterranean dishes.
