Castello Monaci Salice Salentino Liante 2007

Winemaker's Notes:

Wine Advocate Review Rated 89 The estate's 2007 Salice Salentino Liante (Negroamaro, Malvasia Nera) possesses an intriguing array of dark red fruit, sweet herbs and licorice in a round, expansive style. Pretty notes of tobacco linger on the long finish. This, too, is an outstanding value. Anticipated maturity: 2009-2011. Wine Tasting Notes With intense, complex aromas of wild cherry conserve, dried plums, chocolate and vanilla, the wine shows powerful, ripe dark fruit and spices on the palate, with a pleasant finish. The wine is a great match with spicy foods like Fra Diavolo sauce.

The tufa (‘rocks’) of local soils contribute structure to the wine, aid in drainage for the vines, and reflect the light, helping the sun’s work for the vines. Dug out of subterranean rock, the geometric-shaped cellar houses 1,000 barriques and modern temperature-controlled systems that allow small parcels of grapes to be vinified separately. Read less

A ripe, darkly concentrated blend of negroamaro (80%) and malvasia nera (20%), this balances flavors of dark plum and black cherry with a savory mushroom, earthiness. It's a big wine, for braised brisket.Possesses an intriguing array of dark red fruit, sweet herbs and licorice in a round, expansive style. Pretty notes of tobacco linger on the long finish. This too, is an outstanding value.
