What to Expect
"Black and bitter" in Italian, not surprisingly Negroamaro has origins in the Southern Italy's Puglia region and is an important grape both on its own and as a blending grape. It contributes a rich, slightly rustic mouthfeel to a finished wine imbued with a slightly burnt, earthy quality that accentuates deep, roasted plum and mocha toned fruit.
Winemakers Notes
Editorial Reviews
Classic Salice gaining sweet fruit and wild berry tones from the addition of the Malvasia (20%). The wine retains classic tarry notes on the nose that compliment the boysenberry and dried plum fruit tones but in the palate this is dark and spicy with notes of barrel ageing accenting the dried cherry and chocolate tones. A modernish take on Salice but Negroamaro is not a grape easily tamed. 88pts

Wine Advocate ReviewRated 90The estates 2006 Salice Salentino Liante (80% Negroamaro, 20% Malvasia) is another beauty. Made in a very sweet, ripe style, it offers notes of plums, prunes, leather, tar, smoke and earthiness. It should continue to drink beautifully over the next several years. Anticipated maturity: 2008-2011.Wine Tasting NotesWith intense, complex aromas of wild cherry conserve, dried plums, chocolate and vanilla, the wine shows powerful, ripe dark fruit and spices on the palate, with a pleasant finish. The wine is a great match with spicy foods like Fra Diavolo sauce.

Liante (Wind of the Levant) is the icy wind of winter and the hot one of summer, which gusts fiercely through most of the Adriatic, particularly Puglia. The liante is a symbol for a land that breathes.
