What to Expect

Sangiovese's claim to fame is its role as the heart of Chianti, Brunello and many Super Tuscan wines though it is gaining ground as a varietal wine around the globe. When grown in a suitable location the grape's soft tannins, succulent acidity and moderately intense cherry and herb flavors make Sangiovese very easy to drink as well as supremely versatile at the dinner table.

Editorial Reviews

100% Sangiovese While needing a bit of time to get going this has classic notes of tobacco, leather and limestone on the nose. There is a nuance of vanilla and lovely grace notes of smoke and slightly herbaceous/herbal sod. This offers up a wonderfully feminine and firmly mid-bodied feel with fine acidity and rich flavors of leather, red currants, a touch of rust, and limestone with nice richness on the back end and solid length. Over the course of the evening this puts on weight and the fruit darkens but never becomes too heavy. Very fine, balanced Chianti that is sure to please. 91pts.

W&S 93pts. - Tasting Notes - Medium-deep ruby. The nose reveals vanillin oak, black pepper, mushroom and black truffle but surprisingly little depth of aromas. Fresh and vibrant on the palate, this offers a pleasant, soft mouth feel...

Ripe red fruit nose with fungal undertones. Pepper and spice mixed with dark red fruit. There's a bit of a tannic edge, but it's quite smooth, with notes of dark chocolate and oak. Smooth, silky texture.

Thin but complex in the mouth at first, then boils over into a grand bright red flavor with grippy tannins and an acidic spicy finish.

Olives, kirsch and fern on the nose. Very mineral and acidic - the wine starts out slowly, but builds with a strong leathery quality with raw drying tannins and a pungent animal quality on the finish. Still very tight, despite being 5 years old. This is an interesting wine, not my style though.
