Rather vibrant and focused on the nose with fine sage and fennel herb notes framing the core of lightly jammy strawberry fruits, with nuanced almond and smoke top notes and a hint of violet. This is still youthful, tight and bright. The wine is rather compact in the mouth with lovely ripe tannins adding volume. Not terribly large scaled, this offers a lovely, rich core of burnished cherry and strawberry fruit cut with a fine mineral tone. With air, gentle sweet tobacco, apple stem and almond notes emerge on the mid-palate and reveal greater depth on the moderately long finish. This is very well done. Quintessential CCR. 92pts

This is one of those wines that is actually grapey! Sugary grapiness, like grape soda sans fizz, concentrated dark berries, raspberries for some acidity.

Someone please bring me some hearty pasta! The nose is screaming “pair me with goat cheese and mushroom ravioli”; and has notes of ripe red fruits and lots of wood. On the palate, green peppercorn, wood, yellow bell peppers’ sweetness, and light tannins. Finishes, smooth with a creamy/silky light buttery texture. I can’t wait to drink this with some delicious meaty foods.

Drinkable now. Soft tannins, good flavors of plum, black cherry and oak. Good acidity.

This wine was surprisingly giving and alive, despite its advanced age (these things can go either way, as we know). Thankfully, this bottle aged with grace, and kept getting better in the glass. Excellent perfume and structure, with lip-smacking cherry, bark and almost hamlike, meaty flavors with some good residual acidity. If you're lucky enough to have a bottle of this, drink it soon.

Big aromas of dark berries and a bit smoky on the nose. On the palate this wine is quite dry and delivers aromas of blackberry jam supported by firm tannins. The finish is reminiscent of coffee and chocolate.

In Italian “querceto” means oak grove, which is where the Castello di Querceto got its name. Nestled in a high valley near Greve in the Chianti Classico zone, the castle, which dates back to the 15th century, is surrounded by a grove of oak trees. Wine production is a legacy here and quality is a tradition. This Rieserva is a superior quality wine on all levels. The Wine Advocate scored it 91 points ad said "The 2005 Chianti Classico Riserva is an intense, weighty wine loaded with black cherries, minerals, violets and grilled herbs. The wine reveals good length and balance in a medium to full-bodied style that will require some patience for the tannins to soften a bit. The finish and overall balance are those of a first-class wine. This is a delicious Chianti that should offer very fine drinking over the coming years. Anticipated maturity: 2011-2021."
