Castello di Nipozzano Chianti Rufina Riserva Montesodi 2009

Winemaker's Notes:

Nipozzano 2009 is a lovely ruby-red. The nose opens with red cherries and pleasant floral notes of lilac. The spicy component emerges with nuances of clove and green peppercorn. The palate is characterized by a distinct tactile approach in which the stamp of the terroir is underlined by a lively minerality. The tannin texture is tight but not sharp which is also an expression of the uniqueness of the soils of Nipozzano. The finish returns to the intense fruity notes already identified on the nose.Winery Website

Layered Rice Pudding

RiceSelect's fragrant Jasmati® is blended with eggs, milk and fall's favorite spices, cinnamon and nutmeg, to create a delicious rice pudding, which is layered on top of fluffy cream cheese and abuttery pecan crust. Pairs well with a bold, tawny port with flavors of dried fruits, nuts, and spices.

Deep red with garnet colour; aromas of black cherry/blackberry fruit with cedar, smoke and vanilla notes; extra dry, full bodied, with balanced fruit flavours, notes of smoke and tar, good acidity with a touch of spice, licorice and leather; long finish.

The 2007 Chianti Rufina Riserva shows the open, opulent personality that makes this vintage so alluring. Ripe, silky tannins frame a core of red fruits, flowers and spices, all of which come together with unsual grace. Though medium in body, there is wonderful generosity to the fruit, not to mention fabulous overall balance. Anticipated maturity: 2010-2015.

Offers mature aromas and flavors of forest floor, dried fruit, sweet spice and leather, all matched to a bright profile. Remains light-footed, lingering on the finish. Drink now through 2018. 130,000 cases made. -BS The 2009 Chianti Rufina Riserva Nipozzano is very pretty. Veins of minerality support an expressive core of dark red berries in this silky, long Chianti. The 2009 impresses for its persistence and fine overall balance. Ideally, the 2009 is enjoyed while the fruit retains its vibrancy. Anticipated maturity: 2012-2019. Bright, full ruby. High-toned aromas of red berries, violet and wild herbs. Dense and sweet but also juicy, with a creamy, fine-grained texture to the complex flavors of red and black fruits and exotic dried herbs. Nicely energetic Chianti, finishing with sweet tannins and excellent length.

General Information:Nipozzano Riserva Chianti Rufina DOCG is one of the historic wines produced at the Castello di Nipozzano. This wine always retains its close relationship with the Castello di Nipozzano terroir.Vintage Report:Spring 2010 was marked by frequent rainstorms, which made life difficult for the viticulturalists with regard to vineyard operations and anti-fungal efforts, but the rain also had the benefit of building up groundwater reserves. The summer months experienced a rather even alternation of decent rains and sunny days. September brought ideal conditions, with cool nights and warm, sunny days right through to the end of the harvest. The upshot was that the vines performed splendidly, and the fruit arrived in the cellar with optimal ripeness levels. At Castello di Nipozzano, the weather conditions, even and balanced throughout the season, will produce wines of remarkable elegance, bright acidity, and emphatic aromatics, with superb complexity and cellaring potential. After the spring rains, the summer months were marked by mild, sunny conditions that lasted into autumn. September brought some rain, but it did no harm to the health and soundness of the fruit. The fine ripeness levels of the grapes will ensure remarkably fine structures for this years wines.ESTATE AND VINEYARD LOCATION: Chianti Rùfina area where is located Castello di NipozzanoALTITUDE: 250-500 mVINEYARD SIZE: 250 haEXPOSURE: VariousSOIL TYPE: Calcareous clay, rich in stonePLANTING DENSITY: From 2,500 to 6,000 vines per hectareTRAINING SYSTEM: Spur - pruned cordon and guyot
