Castello di Neive Barbaresco 2007

Winemaker's Notes:

"The 2007 Barbaresco Albesani Santo Stefano shows the weight and richness that is typical of this south-facing site in Neive. A rich fabric of dark fruit, fresh roses, new leather and menthol completely cover the palate. The Santo Stefano is impeccable in its generous, enveloping fruit. The intensity and sheer depth of the fruit manages to virtually bury the tannins, but they are there. As delicious as this is today, it will be even better in a few years- time. Anticipated maturity: 2015-2027...Castello di Neive, one of the historic producers in Barbaresco, seems to fly under the radar, but the best of the wines are well worth discovering and offer terrific quality for the money...95." nice watermelon, cherry, earth, and suggestion of herb note, bright, red fruited, open, nice ripeness without sweetness, good balance, a touch of orange peel in the mouth, very fruity but not vulgar, refreshing finish, perhaps a bit smaller scaled and slightly savory but I like this a lot

Extracty, rosehips and vitamins, mineral and dried meats, some cough medicine cola syrup tones in there, lots of soft tannins, sweet fruit, decent acid, monotonous, nice rosehip notes, a bit sweet but with good flavors, long if dry finish

Actually 3.6+ stars. Color, this wine has a nice very classic barbaresco color, very light, pleasant, seductive. On the nose, wild flours, cherries, some black fruits, leather, rich, tar, some earthiness. Midpalate, wild roses and cherries are very vibrant, medium bodied, covers all your palate, some sweet tobacco coming through. It shows a lot of potential. Finish, nice acidity, firm tannins covering all my palate, still wild cherries and roses are dominating, long finish, well balanced, very round, really lingering in the mouth, acceptably complex. Overall, this wine is very well made, it has a lot to offer, nice complexity, textured. This wine is best if you pair it with food. It is a bit hard to drink it by itself. This wine has not peaked yet. Drinkable now but best between 2015-2029. Bottled at 14.5%. I am 92 on this effort. It is well made and I am enjoying it. Happy drinking!

The 2007 Barbaresco is another of the entry-level wines that shows an unusual level of finesse and balance in this vintage. This mid-weight, feminine Barbaresco flows with the essence of berries, crushed flowers, minerals and spices in a delicate, feminine style. The wine gains volume and depth in the glass, but without abandoning what is a very classic, firm style. Beautifully fragrant throughout, Castello di Neive's 2007 Barbaresco captures many of the qualities that make Nebbiolo so alluring. A clean, refreshing finish rounds things out nicely. This is fabulous juice. Anticipated maturity: 2012-2022.

Bright and tonic, this cheerful Barbaresco delivers pretty aromas of perfumed spice, wild flowers, licorice and light shadings of talc powder. In the mouth, it offers an especially smooth and silky feel. Pair this elegant wine with lamb chops topped with crispy fried shallots.

Youandrsquo;ll absolutely love this wine. Barbaresco Santo Stefano offers intensity, harmony and imparts delicious aromas of sweet spice, wild berries, licorice, tar and light touches of smoke or graphite. It boasts a smooth, rich texture with bright acidity on the close. This is a very pure and pristine expression of Nebbiolo that will live long in the cellar.
