Castello di Monsanto Sangiovese Toscana IGT Fabrizio Bianchi 2001
Monsanto Chianti Classico Riserva is a 90% Sangiovese and 10% Canaiolo and Colorino blend aged for 24 months in oak plus 6 months in bottle creating a medium ruby color. It has a sweet scent with ripe, warm cherries and notes of dry earth and tobacco, and an elegant palate full of bright cherry and berry fruit, dry, ripe tannins and great acidity making it a perfect wine for food!
Castello di Monsanto is one of the most respected estates in Tuscany and one of the top producers of traditional Chianti Classico Riserva. Located midway between Florence & Siena, the estate lies on the westernmost edge of the Chianti Classico zone, one of the best areas for Chianti. The estate itself is a landmark, with its distinctive hilltop castle.

Deep and layered with some barnyard or Band-Aid that doesn't distract from a solid core of ripe cherry, red fruit, coffee, toast and vanilla bean. I liked the toasted notes that add dimension and softness. This is a wine that would pair well with bra... Wine Enthusiast. A Sangiovese wine from Tuscany in Italy. 2001 Castello di Monsanto Chianti Classico Riserva Il Poggio 750ml
Wine Advocate ReviewMonsantos 2001 Chianti Classico Riserva Il Poggio reveals earthiness, menthol, spices, leather and ripe dark fruit in a full-bodied expression of this wine. The 2001 remains an intense Il Poggio with an additional dimension of volume and sweetness from the French oak, which is very prominent in this vintage. That said, this is a wine that offers considerable upside from further cellaring. In 2001 Il Poggio was aged in French oak barriques of which 40% were new. Anticipated maturity: 2011-2026.
