The 2008 Corbaia is striking in this vintage. A delicate, graceful bouquet gives the impression of femininity, until layers of fruit hit the palate with relentless energy and focus. The 2008 impresses for its balance and overall sense of harmony. The tannins are still huge at this stage, but I sense that as they melt away the wine’s true pedigree will begin to emerge. This is a great, great showing from Castello di Bossi. Corbaia is 70% Sangiovese and 30% Cabernet Sauvignon aged in new French oak barrels. Anticipated maturity: 2016–2028.

A ripe style, offering black currant and cassis flavors, with loads of sweet spices. This is international in style, though the tannins on the finish lack polish. Shows some heat. Sangiovese and Cabernet Sauvignon. Best from 2012 through 2016.

A formidable, black wine melding sangiovese with cabernet sauvignon, this holds all its heady, pungent fruit in a tight structure. The austere tannins need bottle age or a well-marbled steak to allow the wine to show its best.

Corbaia is a delicious blend of Sangiovese (70%) and Cabernet Sauvignon that shows compact but well-etched lines of forest fruit, bramble, cranberry and sharp, savory spice. The tannins are firm, tight and need a few more years to unwind.

Winemaker's Notes:

Intense ruby-red in color with garnet highlights, Corbaia offers jammy aromas of black currant, cherry, and cassis backed by hints of tobacco, chocolate, and coffee. On the palate, the powerful Corbaia is supple and layered with rich texture and well-integrated tannins. Food Pairing: The perfect choice for wild boar, game, steaks and roast beef.
