Castello di Ama la Casuccia Chianti Classico 2001

Member Review by Eric Guido:

For a bottle with ten years age, this wine showed no degradation, as I watch it's deep, dark ruby color swirl around the glass. On the nose, it was like a basket of ripe wild berries, with soil notes, toasted chestnut and a whiff of dusty cocoa. On the palate, a velvety wash of vibrant dark red fruits coated every taste bud and then slowly melted away as its balanced acidity made the mouth water. A remnant of tannin stilled lurked in the background and promised many more years of development in bottle, yet it was so good now, it's hard to resist.

Relatively few, perhaps, but true domains of Bacchus where everything is utterly flawless, where time assumes the feel of history, the memory of timeless impressions, the quintessential ingredient in the evolution of wine. Castello di Ama is one of those places where one encounters the Platonic absolutes (…)” Read less
