Dark ruby red. Aromas of blackberry, dried flowers and cherry. Very intense and concentrated nose. Full-bodied, with velvety tannins and a long flavorful finish. Lots of light vanilla and crushed dark fruits on the finish. Solid now, but better with ... Wine Spectator. A Sangiovese Grosso wine from Tuscany in Italy. 1997 Castello Banfi Brunello di Montalcino Poggio AllOro 750ml
Blockbuster. Incredibly intense black cherry aromas with hints of mint and red licorice. It soon turns to flowers. Full-bodied and full-throttled with masses of tannins and concentrated fruit. Very extracted. Needs time still. Best after 2006. 5 000 cases made. JS Wine Spectator.
Full bright ruby. Cherry liqueur coffee and exotic woodsmoke on the superripe nose. Big and chewy on the palate; a broad oaky wine with a strong impression of extract and plenty of personality. Flavors of crystallized red berries coffee and mocha. Finishes with huge tannins that avoid dryness. Very true to the vintage. Stephen Tanzers IWC.
The internationally-styled dark ruby/garnet-colored 1997 Brunello di Montalcino is somewhat one-dimensional offering straightforward aromas of sweet new oak black cherries and currant fruit. In the mouth it is medium-bodied and clean with a modest finish. There is sweet fruit but little complexity depth or length. However it is one of the finest wines this estate has yet produced. Drink it over the next decade. Robert Parkers Wine Advocate.
