Castello Banfi Chianti Classico 2007

Winemaker's Notes:

Wine Tasting Notes Young mauve red color. Complex aromas with varietal notes of plum, blackberry and hints of licorice, vanilla and light leather. Fruit forward, with black-fruit notes. Good structure, well balanced, with a lingering finish.

This was just not doing it for me last night. Had it before dinner as we were experiencing a pretty cold day in between to beautiful 70 degree days. It was dry and rough in the mouth. Felt like a low grade sand paper. Not much fruit or character to it. The 2006 was far better in my opinion.

The Banfi Chianti Classico is predominantly Sangiovese with small amounts of Canaiolo Nero and Cabernet Sauvignon. Medium dark ruby in color, it offers fresh dark fruit aromas of boysenberry and blackberry and a palate of flavorful ripe fruit. It also exhibits excellent balance and structure and a persistent finish. A lovely wine offered at a great price. 89 Points.

A basic wine that's in proportion. The bouquet offers bacon, menthol and rubber along with nuances of espresso and modest complexity. Boysenberry and blackberry flavors carry notes of cinnamon and vanilla, while the feel is soft yet substantive. Not a thriller, but eminently drinkable.

An international style emphasizing smoothness and quality over local character, this is warm with dark chocolate flavors, ready to enjoy with roast beef. A great buy.
