Castello Banfi 2005
Castello Banfi is a family-owned vineyard estate and winery in the Brunello region of Tuscany. Together with its sister estates in Piedmont, Vigne Regali and Principessa Gavi, it has become recognized the world over for its dedication to excellence and sparking a renaissance in the art of Italian winemaking. Called "Poggio alle Mura" to honor the historical name of the medieval fortress crowning the vineyard estate, the wine's vineyard runs down the slopes surrounding the castle - today called Castello Banfi. Poggio alle Mura is the result of over two decades of research in clonal selection for the Sangiovese varietal. Poggio alle Mura is also Castello Banfi's first unfiltered wine, encompassing a full body and complexity unique to the genre. The wine is deep ruby tending toward garnet in color and has aromas of violets, sweet ripe red fruits and berries as well as cigar box, cedar and exotic spices like clove and cardamom. The finish is long and persistent. Poggio alle Mura Brunello di Montalcino is best exhibited with game, red meats, roasts, hearty stews and rich powerful cheeses such as Parmigiano Reggiano. Wine Spectator rates this 92 points and says, "Impresses with its ripe fruit and depth of fresh herbs and spices on the nose. Full-bodied, with velvety tannins and an intense, rich finish. There's a lovely polished texture and depth of fruit. Best after 2011. 5,000 cases made" -JS

A solid example of Chianti. Is getting better with age.
Banfi Chianti Classico is a rich ruby red wine made from the area's famous Sangiovese grapes. Fresh and well-ballanced with pleasing aromas of cherries and plums.
A friend suggested i try this...he is still a friend... Excellent throughly enjoyed this from the first sip on.
I thoroughly enjoy this wine every time I drink it. It has a sour, cherry tang to it combined with a great nose of plum and blackcurrants. Not too heavy and very dependable too. It is always a shame to get to the bottom of it, unless of course there is another one behind it. Can be found for less than £20 too from a few places making it even better.
Have always loved this wine. Rich, smooth. Have just bought a batch for Holidays

Wine Tasting NotesYoung mauve red color. Complex aromas with varietal notes of plum, blackberry and hints of licorice, vanilla and light leather. Fruit forward, with black-fruit notes. Good structure, well balanced, with a lingering finish.
Wine Tasting NotesIntense deep garnet-red color. Delicate aromas, with characteristic notes of plum, cherry, and a hint of leather. Supple tannins and a well-balanced structure. Enjoyable now, but with the potential for medium- to long-term aging.
