Castelgiocondo Lamaione Toscana IGT 2008

External Review by Great Wines Direct:

The Frescobaldi name goes back many centuries into the history of art, culture, trade and finance of Italy in general and Tuscany in particular. From the second half of the last century, the Frescobaldi’s were keen players in the development of Tuscan vine-growing. Castelgiocondo is set in typical Mediterranean woodlands and enjoys a steady climate over the years; very hot and dry, with a little evenly distributed rainfall and perfect orientation and exposure to the sun. Grapes : 100% Merlot Region : Italy / Tuscany / Castelgiocondo IGT Maker : Nicolo D'Afflitto Notes : A rich nose offering dried plums and wild blackberries followed by defined nuances of green peppers and newly cut hay converge with smooth vanilla, chocolate and tobacco leaf. The palate is just as complex with a dense, silky ensmble of fine grained tannins, perfectly balanced by emphatic acidity. Appealingly smooth and round, with a warm, long lasting finish. Serve : Ideal with slow-cook dishes, such as pot roasts marinated in Lamaione, mushroom based stews, braised meats with potatoes, aged cheeses and game meats such as wild boar. Also delightful with aged cheeses. ABV : 14% Suitable for Vegetarians
