What to Expect

Australia has certainly made Syrah its own, even bestowing it with a new name: Shiraz. In the warm, dry climate of Australia this noble grape, responsible for some of the grandest wines of France, produces an intense, unique expression that is distinctly Australian. The ripe grapes take on classic notes of black pepper and leather that add depth and complexity to the black cherry and plum fruits on the palate. Australian Shiraz has typically been aged in American Oak barrels which impart the wine with a distinct note of vanilla that can add to the impression of ripeness many of these wines have, but the time in barrel also allows the wines a chance to settle and reveal their rich, voluptuously styled mouthfeel.

Reviews

A nice, rich wine both in color and flavor. The color is so dark, it is almost impossible to see through the wine. The wine is complex yet velvety smooth.

Very good Australian shiraz that surprised me with it's complexity. Not overpowering, but upfront with the fruit.

I was served this wine at a party recently and found it to be really awful. This wine is so over manipulated and the added sugars were obvious (yes, Yellowtail adds sugar to standardize the taste). For the same money try the Jim Jim Shiraz, it is a much better wine.

A rich colour and deep hue introduces your nose to a ripe and rich flavour. A cracked pepper and spice nose is blended with vanilla and fruit ripeness. The vanilla softness on the nose takes you into a ripe palate crammed with weight and soft, sweet oak length.

The Yellow Tail 2005 Shiraz is an excellent tasting wine. I wouldn't pass this one up.

On a recent girls' night out, we all thought this wine was delightful. Great color and excellent flavor!! We have been looking for it locally with no success.
