Case Basse Soldera Brunello di Montalcino Riserva 2006

Winemaker's Notes:

"Soldera’s 2006 Brunello di Montalcino Riserva has been utterly gorgeous on the many times I have tasted it. Expressive, floral and impeccably perfumed, the 2006 Riserva is surprisingly mid-weight and gracious in this vintage. Layers of sweet fruit with Burgundian overtones emerge as the wine gains depth and volume in the glass. Today, the 2006 is a delicate Brunello from Soldera rather than a powerhouse, but then again, these wines have a way of putting on weight in the bottle. I can’t wait to see how the 2006 develops over the coming years...95+" WA 06/13 "Once again, my impression is that the 2006 Brunello di Montalcino is not fully formed. Surprisingly refined, silky and polished, the 2006 is quite beautiful, but it also does not appear to have the structure of the best vintages. There is plenty of time, though, so it will be interesting to see how the 2006 develops over the coming years and decades...95" Antonio Galloni, Vinous Media 01/15 "A good dose of air coaxes out the maturing aromas and flavors of sandalwood, leather, underbrush, sweet cherry and mineral. This intriguing red displays lightness and elegance without sacrificing structure or intensity. Features a savory finish...94" WS 05/13

Case Basse:
Case Basse is an estate in the southwest area of Montalcino, where Sangiovese Grosso vines are grown to produce the famous Brunello. It is over 23 hectares in size, and is in an excellent geographical position for wine growing -due to the hilly land of Eocene origin, -due to the altitude: 320 meters, -due to the exposure: southwest, -due to the dry, sunny climate with no fog, -due to the limpid light.

The 2005 Brunello di Montalcino Riserva emerges from the glass with soft red cherries, licorice, tobacco and sweet herbs. It is a pretty wine with gorgeous inner perfume and fine overall balance... Vintage: 1997 07/05/2011

The 1997 Brunello di Montalcino Riserva Case Basse, which spent over four years in cask, is medium garnet in color but brilliant and vivid in hue. The intense and elegant aromas of wild cherries, red currants, cinnamon, and blood oranges are followed by a palate of superior continuity, energy, and drive. Medium to full-bodied but fine grained and silky, it is focused, long and of superior persistence. The 1997 is closer in style to the 1995 than the blockbuster Brunello Riservas produced in 1983, 1985, 1990 and 1993, something of which Soldera seems well aware. He did not produce his single-vineyard Intistieti Riserva.
