Casanova di Neri Brunello Tenuta Nuova 2005

Winemaker's Notes:

Blackberries and blueberries on the nose. Full-bodied with silky and racy tannins as well as a hint of vanilla. Long and pretty. Very clean....Best after 2010.

The grapes from this vineyard are usually used to produce our Brunello di Montalcino. Nearby we find the "Poderuccio" vineyard. It is situated at 350 metres above sea-level. These grapes are also used to produce our Brunello di Montalcino. In 1986 we bought Cerretalto, a magical place. It is a natural amphitheatre near the Asso river at a height which varies between 250 and 300 metres above sea-level. Its position to the east of Montalcino means that it has a unique and unmistakable "Terroir". On the opposite side of Montalcino to the south-east, near Castelnuovo dell'Abate we find the "Pietradonice"vineyard. The earth, the position, the microclimate, the choice of clones, the grafting and a well organised vineyard all help to produce great grapes which improve each year. Il terreno, l'esposizione, il microclima, la scelta dei cloni, portainnesti, sesto di impianto ci stanno dando delle grandi uve ogni anno migliori. In a single word - magnificent. PLast but not least, thanks to its fine landscape and uncontaminated nature is the "Cetine" vineyard. Here we have 25 hectares facing south south-east on a magical hillside near Sant'Angelo in Colle. The thyme and other plants typical of the Mediterranean scrub and the extreme drop in temperature at night contribute to give us fruit of incredible quality. Every year this Sangiovese gives us the hope and strength to become even better. Fantastic and magic. . Read less

92 Points - The Wine Advocate"The 2005 Brunello di Montalcino is soft and pleasing in its generous dark fruit and expressive bouquet. Plums, flowers and spices frame the long finish. In 2005 the straight Brunello is particularly successful, no doubt in part because it contains the fruit from Cerretalto, which was not made that year. Interestingly, this is a wine that doesnt usually attract much attention. Value-conscious buyers should be on the lookout for deals on this gorgeous 2005 Brunello. Anticipated maturity: 2010-2020."Winemaker's notes:The wine is very powerful with great fruit, acidity and is also pretty tannic right now (even with the air time). I tasted tart cherries, raspberries and plums all rolled into one. The grapes for this wine come from the Cetine vineyard which is located on the south side of Montalcino. That is where the power of Tenuta Nuova comes from.
