Casanova di Neri Brunello di Montalcino White Label 2012

Winemaker's Notes:

Casanova di Neri is one of the shining stars of Montalcino. Each successive vintage released brings us renewed understanding of the focus and the dedication demonstrated by the father and son team that operates this estate. The winemaking style is impeccable and elaborate. There's a higher degree of texture and richness on display, and this is not often the case with Sangiovese. The 2012 Brunello di Montalcino opens to thick layers of dark fruit, mocha, spice, leather, cigar box and pipe tobacco. A distant note of dried fruit or blackberry confit adds softness and sweetness. Give this wine a few more years to flesh out and integrate.93 pts Wine Advocate

The grapes from this vineyard are usually used to produce our Brunello di Montalcino. Nearby we find the "Poderuccio" vineyard. It is situated at 350 metres above sea-level. These grapes are also used to produce our Brunello di Montalcino. In 1986 we bought Cerretalto, a magical place. It is a natural amphitheatre near the Asso river at a height which varies between 250 and 300 metres above sea-level. Its position to the east of Montalcino means that it has a unique and unmistakable "Terroir". On the opposite side of Montalcino to the south-east, near Castelnuovo dell'Abate we find the "Pietradonice"vineyard. The earth, the position, the microclimate, the choice of clones, the grafting and a well organised vineyard all help to produce great grapes which improve each year. Il terreno, l'esposizione, il microclima, la scelta dei cloni, portainnesti, sesto di impianto ci stanno dando delle grandi uve ogni anno migliori. In a single word - magnificent. PLast but not least, thanks to its fine landscape and uncontaminated nature is the "Cetine" vineyard. Here we have 25 hectares facing south south-east on a magical hillside near Sant'Angelo in Colle. The thyme and other plants typical of the Mediterranean scrub and the extreme drop in temperature at night contribute to give us fruit of incredible quality. Every year this Sangiovese gives us the hope and strength to become even better. Fantastic and magic. . Read less

GIOVANNI NERI TASTING NOTES: Casanova di Neri proudly produces the White Label Brunello since 1978. Our passion and love for the land and our own distinctive Sangiovese joined together to make a wine that stands out for elegance, finesse, high quality and long ageing potential. 2012 winter was considered mild until February, when snow and frost hit the area quite heavily. Those conditions provided some water storage in the ground for the rest of the growing season and let the grapes ripen slowly and regularly. Spring and summer were quite dry meaning lower yields compared to previous vintages. The White Label grapes have been harvested from the last week of September to the first week of October. The most distinctive characteristic of 2012 vintage was the size of the clusters: Small, with widely/loosely spaced berries that brought to an outstanding ripening. The prevailing features of White Label 2012 are balance and finesse, which are supported by a long and velvety finish and an intense red fruit bouquet. This wine is already showing its pleasantness despite the long ageing potential. VINIFICATION: Manual selection of the grapes before and after destemming, followed by a spontaneus fermentation without the addition of artificial yeast. Maceration is assisted by a falling down system, and everything is carried out inside open cone-shaped and temperature controlled fermenters for 23 days. AGEING IN OAK BARRELS: 43 months ALCOHOL/VOL.: 14.5% DRY EXTRACT: 31 TOTAL ACIDITY: 5.9 ** Only 12 in Stock **
