External Reviews for Casa Lapostolle Merlot
Smoky and round, with big black fruit delivering a serious opening salvo. Like most from Lapostolle, this is a big boned red with full plum and black cherry aromas and flavors. Plenty of oak yields vanilla and chocolate late. A solid, very nice Chilean Merlot.
Chunky Cab, with dark raspberry and blackberry fruit pushed by firm cocoa and toast notes. More dark, bacony toast on the finish. Solid, if a bit square in the end. Drink now through 2008.
Inky ruby color. Impressively complex nose offers a sexy bouquet of blackberry, cocoa, rose and musky underbrush. Pliant dark fruit flavors possess very good concentration, a distinctly velvety texture and good finishing sweetness. This is extremely seductive wine.
Muscular, with broad cocoa and plum sauce notes leading the way for an ample core of currant confiture and licorice. The rock-solid finish will need some cellaring to stretch out. Best from 2009 through 2011.
Dark red. Intense, peppery aromas of cherry, plum and dark chocolate strongly hint at Bordeaux. Quite tangy and firm on the palate, with flavors of fresh herbs, bitter cherry and iron. Finishes spicy and long, with silky tannins and a lingering note of cherry pit carrying through.
(includes 15% carmenere) Exotic aromas of red- and blackcurrant, raisin bread and baking spices. Lush, gently sweet dark berry flavors are enlivened by cracked pepper and a sexy cinnamon quality. Packs serious punch but carries no excess weight. The finish repeats the spicy note and lingers impressively.
A meaty, smoky, leathery current flows through the ripe bouquet, followed by tons of blackberry, chocolate and clove flavors. Finishing touches of coffee and burnt toast mostly mask the mild green note one detects on the back palate.
Casa Lapostolle has been founded by the Marnier Lapostolle family from France and the Rabat family from Chile in 1994, through Alexandra Marnier Lapostolle, her husband Cyril de Bournet and Don José Rabat Gorchs. Today, Casa Lapostolle is 100% owned by the Marnier-Lapostolle group. The Marnier Lapostolle family, founders and owners of the world-renowned liqueur Grand Marnier, are known for producing spirits and liqueurs, but the family has been also involved in winemaking for generations. Originally winegrowers in the Loire Valley, the Marnier Lapostolle continue this vintner tradition today as owners of Chateau de Sancerre. This lovely Merlot offers clean aromas of ripe red fruit with sweet spices and notes of rosemary and herbs de Provence towards the end. Medium-bodied, well-balanced and fresh.
