Casa Lapostolle Clos Apalta Red 97js Premier 2010
"The aromas in this wine are phenomenal with slate, blackberry, blue granite and lead pencil. Violet too. Full body, with seamless tannins and dense and reserved structure. It needs about three or four years to soften. 100% new wood and aged 26 months. From 71% carmenere, 15% cabernet sauvignon, and 11% merlot. From biodynamically grown grape..97"JS "Big and rich, this red is filled with powerful flavors of blackberry, dark currant, black olive and dark chocolate that are built on an ironclad frame. Notes of cocoa powder and cream chime in as well, and the muscular finish lingers with hints of savory herb. Carmenère, Cabernet Sauvignon and Merlot. Best from 2014 through 2022...94." #42 Wine of 2014 WS 3/14

Editorial Reviews for Casa Lapostolle Clos Apalta Red 97js Premier
Very nice vanilla laced nose, firm nose, lean fruit framed with tight grained wood tones, snappy, clear, lovely transparency, lovely precision to the fruit, blue and red fruit, lots of tannins which are a bit dry but there is an innate sweetness here, lovely purity to the fruit, aromatic length, love to see this relax, 90pts
Very precise and focused on the nose with a fine, sweet herbal edge and some cedar oak hightones framing a core of tomato and currant fruit. Smooth and moderately rich considering its mid-weight size, this covers the palate with chocolate toned plum and red currant fruit. there's a gentle, and slightly creamy, oak note here as this flows to a clean, fresh and moderately long finish with a nice pop of candied berry fruit on the finale. Shows a nice blend of sophistication and purity. 87pts
a smokiness with red raspberries coursing underneath mixed with darker berry fruit, nice spice notes, beautifully balanced with a hot finish
Raspberry, blueberry, soil, and pencil shavings on the nose. Shows a fleshy mouthfeel, with red and blue fruit up front. Some bitterness and menthol on a medium plus finish. Very young wine, but not flagrantly new world in style. There's plenty of old-school rustic earthiness to balance the fruit. Overall a decent drink the ends with a question mark.
Big and rich, fresh and juicy. Wonderful value. Strong blackberry aroma with hints of cedar and cherry. Powerful palate with continued blackberry that slowly evolves into a velvety finish. Hints of cherry and cola. Great example of a Carmenere.
The nose showed wild berries, pepper and undergrowth with a cloak of dark oak. On the palate, a dense, velvety wave of dark chocolate, blackberry and green pepper washed across the senses. The long finish showed tart berries.
Dense in the glass. At first, it has a roasty, gamy nose. very savory. Some hints of green herbs. Some funky earth notes. Musty. Some nutmeg and pepper along with purple and red fruit. On the palate, there's big acid. It's young and vibrant and a bit bracing. Very ripe fruit. It's got a rich texture amidst lingering acidity. A tad young for my style, but some time and air on it and it continues to improve.
The nose shows pepper dark fruit and stones with a similar palate that leads into a dry pepper finish.
Good cabernet, average for the price $12.99

Full and a bit rough at first, with some heat on the nose. Swirling settles it down, and what comes up are brawny cherry, cassis and chocolate flavors. Very sturdy and tannic, with energy. Significantly less lush and tasty than the benchmark 2003.
Light-bodied and fresh, with good red plum and grape flavors backed by a hint of tobacco on the finish. Drink now.
Intense purple color. Expressive nose full of fresh red fruit along with tobacco, cedar and tea leaf towards the finish. Fresh attack on the palate and a medium body. Finishing with very juicy tannins. The ideal companion for pastas, pork and grilled
Inviting nose of crushed raspberry and dark chocolate follows through on the palate, with juicy texture and honest tannins providing contour to the finish. Very solid. Hard to find a better deal in Cabernet. Drink now through 2004.
Juicy layers of raspberry, vanilla and cassis bush are backed by a bouncy, slightly raisined finish. Also contains Carmenère, Petit Verdot and Cabernet Franc. Drink now through 2009.
Lapostolle's basic Cab scores big in the fine '01 vintage. It features a deep nose of tire rubber, blackberry and rusticity. The palate is high-octane and deep, with plenty of ripe, tannic black fruit. And the finish is round and lengthy. It should age well for a couple of years.
Lively and fresh, with crushed raspberry and blueberry flavors, and a muscular, smoky finish.
