Editorial Reviews for Casa Lapostolle Clos Apalta
More redux, light grassy top note, little sweet toasty spice, plummy, spicy with a hint of sweet spices and a suggestion of pepper. Soft on the palate and loose, aromatic in the mouth. Nice violet, mulberry fruit. Perfumed up front then not a huge finish, juicy on the back end. 85pts
User Reviews for Casa Lapostolle Clos Apalta
Add your reviewConsistently an amazing wine. this one is a little young, but based on the track record of the wine, I am sure will show its stuff in a few years.
smooth and filled with berries at first and then a kick of spices and cloves with a meaty tannic finish, has amazing potential to age longer
Granted this wine needs at least 5-10 years of cellaring to reach its potential it still is stunning in its depth of fruit and structure. Overly tannic when compared to the 2005 I believe in the long run it will show to be a better investment down the road. Veal cheeks, lamb and beef bourguignon pair excellently with this wine. MMmh Good!!!
i bought this wine because it was Wine Spectator's number one wine for 2008, and i have to say i was a great wine, *but* not really my style. it was very well-balanced, smooth drinking with substantial fruit, but felt "over the top". it was a little too bold, too concentrated, and the oak was too much for my taste. perhaps i would love it with another 5 years of age.
External Reviews for Casa Lapostolle Clos Apalta
COLOR: Intense inked dark red with purple hints NOSE: Exuberant and complex, with red and black fruit such as plums, black cherries combined with currant, berries, dry figs with black cocoa and a violet touch. Sweet spices like clover and vanilla give an elegant touch towards the finish. MOUTH: Well balanced, an elegant wine which has a bright attack followed by round, velvety and polished tannins filling the mid palate and a rich long lasting finish.
"Casa Lapostolle Clos Apalta 2007 is deep purple red color. The nose has intense and complex
Elegant balance with velvety and well defined tannins, that evolve towards a concentrated mid palate that is filled with juicy tannins followed by a very long persistence.
The 2005 Clos Apalta Limited Release is composed of 42% Carmenere, 28% Cabernet Sauvignon, 26% Merlot, and 4% Petit Verdot. Opaque purple-colored, the nose reveals notes of pain grille, mineral, spice box, and plummy black and blue fruits. This leads to a layered, nearly opulent wine with gobs of savory, spicy black fruits, excellent balance, and superb integration of oak, tannin, and acidity. It will evolve for 4-6 years and be at its best from 2013 to 2025.
The 2004 Clos Apalta is composed of 86% Carmenere and 14 % Merlot. Purple colored, it has a splendid bouquet of pain grille, spice box, blueberry, and blackberry liqueur. This is followed by a rich, layered wine with excellent grip and plenty of ripe tannins. This nicely balanced effort should reach its peak in 5-6 years and drink well through 2027.
Winemaker's Notes:
Clos Apalta is the ultimate expression of Casa Lapostolle's dedication to quality made from the best grapes from our Apalta vineyard. This wine, not produced every year, is a belnd of Merlot, Carmenere, and Cabernet Sauvignon from 60-100 year old pre-phylloxera vines.
