Casa Lapostolle Clos Apalta(2000)

Grape Varieties: 84% Carmenere-Merlot, 16% Cabernet

Color: Deep ruby with purple shadows.

Nose: Very fresh and intense pure fruit. Aromas of ripe blueberries and concentrated black fruit dominate on an inviting, full and complex nose.

Mouth: Plum on the palate, with toasty oak supporting firm acidity and integrated tannins. An elegant, well balanced, wine with deep, rich fruit, fine polish and a long finish.

Quite remarkably glowing deep crimson. Extremely full-blown, almost dangerously full-blown, expression of ripe Merlot with a lively, racy topnote and saved from blowsiness by a slightly inky finish. Very difficult to spit this one out though I would guess it will be one of the fastest developing Clos Apaltas, the newish top wine of Casa Lapostolle. Drink over the next three or four years.

Number 3 of Wine Spectator's 2003 Top 100 Wines! Color: The color is intense and the density is readily apparent. Aroma: The bouquet provides an explosion of red fruit, blackberry, black cherry and vibrant notes of raspeberry. The oak aging contributes a toasted vanilla and balsamic-like element in the nose. Then, instead of dispersing, all the scents blend together to give greater complexity, precious wood and cedar notes. Flavor: In the mouth, the first impression is density and volume. The wine is round, full and very concentrated. Slowly, a gentle tannic structure appears which read more...
