Food Pairings for Casa Ferreirinha Red Blend Douro Quinta da Leda
Could substitute this $10 Portuguese Douro for other crowd-pleasers at warm-season parties (but may need to decant some). On the nose candied cherry and berry with a hint of powdered sugar and vegetal; on the attack deep, almost sweet ripe cherry and strawberry, slightly astringent on the top of the tongue (tannins seem a bit greater than acid and open up the fruit nicely). Finishes with stone then fruit then slow fade to leather. Balance is somewhat toward the fruit but generally fair.
External Reviews for Casa Ferreirinha Red Blend Douro Quinta da Leda
Elegance and tradition join in a history to be discovered and savoured with each wine of Casa Ferreirinha. In Esteva one can enjoy the intense flavor of very fresh red fruits, such as blackberry and raspberry and floral aromas like violets. Ideal to enjoy still young, it is ready to drink and does not require decanting. - Winery ** SOLD OUT **
There's firm structure behind the well-balanced red berry and white plum flavors, which feature notes of raspberry and spice. Shows dark chocolate flavors on the finish, with hints of graphite. Drink now through 2013. 500 cases imported. -KM
Wine Spectator ReviewThis starts with an amazing aroma of baked fig and pepper, that is followed by layers of robust blackberry, cassis, blueberry and French roast flavors. Exuberant, yet balanced, with a long, delicious finish of cream and spice. Best from 2006 through 2012.Wine Tasting NotesQuinta da Leda 2001 is deep red in color. Its bouquet is very intense and complex with notes of well ripe black fruit (mulberry and black plum), complemented by slight touches of resin, balsam and spice-like aromas. All these aromas are well balanced with those from the wood (vanilla, spices and dry fruits) of the maturation barrels, providing the wine with harmony and elegance. On the palate, its powerful structure, discreet acidity and velvety tannins give it a long, delicate and lingering finish, suggesting its great longevity potential.
