Casa Castillo las Gravas 2006

External Review by Premier Wine & Spirits:

Inky ruby. Heady aromas of red and dark berry preserves, potpourri, bayberry, minerals and smoked meat, plus a suave note of star anise. Sweet, focused and extremely fresh, offering vivid raspberry and candied cherry flavors and finishing with a powerful floral quality. Open-knit and delicious right now; therersquo;s no reason not to drink this now but I have no doubt that it will hold well for at least a few more years. This is a remarkable value.

The 2006 Las Gravas is composed of 55% Monastrell and 45% Cabernet Sauvignon aged for 16 months in new 500-liter French oak. It offers an enticing aromatic array of pain grille, pencil lead, black raspberry, and blueberry that jumps from the glass. This leads to an opulent, dense wine with complex flavors, a smooth-texture, and a lengthy, fruit-filled finish. It will evolve for 2ndash;3 years and offer prime drinking from 2011 to 2020.
