Cartlidge & Browne Pinot Noir North Coast 2015

Member Review by pboss:

Tar, cherry, and lots of dark red fruit. A touch of oak, mild spice, and mushroom earth. Very good midweek quaff.

Cartlidge & Browne Winery:
"Despite the enormous influence of California's wineries, too few specialize in premium wines at value prices. One that does is Cartlidge and Browne. Avoiding extra oak and other types of manipulation used by some vintners, Cartlidge & Browne produces fruity, pure, and vibrant wines that reflect varietals' personalities.

Tart cherry, bordering on bitter. Kind of dull and uninteresting.

Like a vintage foreign convertible, Pinot Noir takes extra effort to maintain. But when done properly elicits respect and envy. If it was easy, then everyone would do it. And that’s half the point. Take the top down and go out for a spin just once and you’ll know it’s worth it all. - Winery Alcohol: 13.85% pH: 3.68 Total Acidity: 0.58 g/100ml

Winemaker's Tasting Notes: Cherry, strawberry and rhubarb notes dene the aromatics of this wine and are backed by hints of cinnamon and oregano. Bright avors of cherry, raspberry and ripe tomato are balanced by a layer of earthy mushroom. Smooth and silky! Delicious with a variety of meats such as lamb, veal and venison and particularly splendid with salmon. Pinot Noir is widely considered one of the best companions to food because of its good acidity and body complementing rather than overpowering food. Notes: Cartlidge and Browne was established in the Spring of 1980 with a commitment to crafting affordable California wines, especially for the sophisticated wine buyer. The wines in the C&B portfolio are well-balanced, appropriately tannic, lightly oaked and low in alcohol, perfect for food-friendly pairings. This Pinot Noir comes from outstanding vineyard sources in the cool-climate appellations of Mendocino, Carneros, and the renowned Russian River Valley.

Vigorous and full-flavored this berry driven Pinot blends aromas of cherry cobbler with spice cake and toffee. A great companion to meals with fall flavors like roast brussels sprouts with bacon or dare we say, turkey?

Roasted plums, black cherry, plump figs and an oak granted earthy spice are the main flavors that boast their presence in this medium bodied red. This wine is rich and displays ripe flavors of cherry liqueur and black fruits all while maintaining great balance and solid structure. Enjoy with roast duck or your favorite braised pork dish.
