Cartagena Gewurztraminer San Antonio Valley 2012

External Review by We Speak Wine:

Cartagena is a classic example of Gewurztraminer located in the closest vineyard to the Pacific Ocean in Chile on steep hillside slopes and thoroughly engulfed by the Pacific breezes and warm climate. The Cartagena wines are produced by Maria Luz Marin from the esteemed Casa Marin Winery in the Lo Abarca sub-region of the San Antonio Valley. This Gewurztraminer is aged entirely in stainless steel tanks allowing the undisturbed expression of the wine to shine. There are plenty of floral aromas with additional whiffs of sandalwood leading to a balance of citrus fruit, peach, and apricot flavors. The bright acidity and depth of character makes this dry-climate Gewurztraminer a classic pairing with Thai, Indian, and other spicy seafood dishes. - Winery ** Only 2 in Stock **

It was founded in the year 2000 by Maria Luz Marín, winemaker and entrepreneur, whose goal of providing innovation to the local wine industry is being accomplished by her focus on premium wines which are a reality with the new “terroir.” It has been described as one of the “most daring and innovative” vineyards in the country. Surrounded by the steep hills of the Chilean coastal mountains, the unique microclimate and wide variety of soils found here give birth to a “terroir” recently discovered for the viticulture of fine wines. The first 25 hectares were planted with Pinot Noir, Sauvignon Blanc, Sauvignon Gris, Gewürztraminer, and Riesling. Chilean and British winemakers comprise a dedicated team who have contributed their know-how to the production of truly outstanding wines. Read less

Aromas of spice box, rose petal, and lychees. Crisp, focused, and intense, the wine has layers of savory fruit and a lengthy finish. - Winery
