Carro Tinto 2012

External Review by Prestige Wine & Spirits:

The 2012 Carro Tinto is terrific bargain in high-quality red wine from Spain, no doubt because it comes from the relatively remote and under-the-radar appellation of Yecla. A blend of 50% Monastrell (Mourvedre), 30% Syrah, 12% Merlot and 8% Tempranillo, it possesses spice and earthy, new saddle leather notes intermixed with notions of cherry jam, truffles and loamy soil. Ripe, full-bodied, rich and generously endowed with no hard edges, Mourvedre grown in Yecla can range from surprisingly rich and fleshy (as is this wine), to rustic and almost undrinkably astringent. This example is a winner that should drink nicely for another several years.

Opaque ruby. Ripe cherry and plum on the nose and palate. Lush and creamy in texture, with a licorice note popping up on the warm, pliant finish.
