User Reviews for Carpineto Vino Nobile di Montepulciano DOCG Riserva

Winemaker's Notes:

Carpineto’s 442-acre estate in Chianciano is located just outside the Renaissance town of Montepulciano. Ninety-six acres of Sangiovese vines adorn the rolling hills of the region. The vineyard has an elevation of 800 feet and the clay soil is rich in lime and fossils. Vino Nobile is made from 90% Prugnolo Gentile clone R24 (Sangiovese Grosso) and 10% Canaiolo Nero. After a long maceration and a temperature-controlled fermentation, this wine is aged over 2 years in Slavonian oak casks with a small portion in French oak barrels. It is then aged in the bottle for up to two years. This wine will reward extensive cellaring. The finished wine is reminiscent of a fine Chianti Classico Riserva and compares favorably to the more expensive Brunello di Montalcino.

Tasting Notes:

The color of Vino Nobile is a brilliant, ruby red with a tendency to garnet. The bouquet is ethereal with hints of violets and wood. The flavor is dry, harmonic, fruity and velvety, with an elegant texture and long finish.
