Caronne St. Gemme Haut-Medoc 2009

Winemaker's Notes:

Chateau Caronne Ste. Germaine is one of the oldest estates in Medoc, dating back to the 1600's. This 2009 Bordeaux is 60% Cabernet Sauvignon, 37% Merlot, 3% Petit Verdot. A classic Medoc; medium red in color, with well balanced fruit and an earthy finish. A great value from the 2009 Vintage!"Offers a dark, plush feel, with roasted fig and warm currant preserves notes flowing over dark tobacco and bittersweet cocoa flavors, followed by a solid, tarry-edged finish.". –JM, Wine Spectator (90 Points)

I bought this bottle of wine for £10 from the www.bidforwine.co.uk website. Haut-Medoc is an appellation set up in 1936,although there has been viticulture here for centuries, for red wines produced in 15 communes on the eastern side of the Medoc peninsular stretching nearly 40 miles north of the City of Bordeaux. My bottle comes from a well known estate and consists of 65% cabernet sauvignon,30% merlot and 5% petit verdot. It was aged in oak barrels. I started the bottle last night with my supper of chicken salad. It is certainly a fresh and fruity wine.[think blackcurrant, brambles and blackberry] with a hint of spice and soft unobtrusive tannins. It was a very pleasant and easy drinking wine. In short, this is a quality product
