Caro Malbec-Cabernet 2005
*Nicolas Catena - Decanter's Man of the Year 2009* A joint venture between Domaines Baron de Rothschild-Lafite and Nicolas Catena, Caro is a marriage of Bordeaux and Argentina in terms of people, knowledge and grapes, making a Cabernet Sauvignon and Malbec blend that draws on the expertise of both parties. First released in 2002 with the 2000 vintage, Caro has quickly gained a reputation as one of Argentina's icon wines. This French-Argentine grape combination makes for a medium to full bodied red wine with a fine structure. It combines black and red fruit flavors with typical notes of olive, chili and herbs that add complexity and depth.
I had the 2003 Caro and I can't say enough about it. The aroma was lush, dark fruits with wood on the nose. Very balanced, ripe and juicy tannins. This wine was very powerful, yet velvety smooth. The WTC (Wine Tasters Club) LOVED this wine!
