What to Expect

California has long struggled with Pinot Noir. Finding the right vineyards for this most fickle of grape, one that enjoys a cool growing season yet needs warmth close to harvest to fully ripen, has proven a challenge in such a sunny state. Cooler areas eventually became identified; the Santa Rita Hills, Russian River Valley and Mendocino's Anderson valley are all prime spots for Pinot Noir in California. Unlike the lighter colored and sometimes delicate Pinots of Burgundy, California produces many rich, deep Pinots full of slightly chewy dark berry and cherry fruits with hints of cola, Asian spices and forest floor frequently adding complexity.

Winemakers Notes

A full bouquet of honey and ripe fruits with a hint of Honeysuckle blossom, that opens on the palate to a rich supple flavors of ripe plum and black cherry. The 2005 ECLIPSE late harvest Pinot Noir fills the palate with silky honey and ripe fruit flavors that lends to a soft luscious warming finish. This lovely wine is a perfect accompaniment to a simple cheese plate featuring mild flavors that allow this wine to “glow”.

Another knockout, if you are into dessert wines, try this one out. Not obnoxiously sweet and not going to make you drunk with the heat. Very tasty.

One of my favorite Bonnie Tyler songs (quite possibly the ONLY Bonnie Tyler song...) and now one of my favorite wines! This late harvest pinot noir is jokingly referred to as "Liquid Panty Remover" by owner Dave Harmon III, but I see where the nickname comes from. The wine is aromatically appealing, with notes of plum, wet leaves and maple syrup. The plum and maple components carry to the flavors and lead to a nice apple cinnamon flavor on the back end. After a few sips I feel like I just ate waffles with maple syrup and apple sauce - and that's not a bad thing! A really great dessert treat read more...

I'm just gonna say it: this wine smells JUST like maple leaves/maple syrup. BOOM! I said it. I could just leave at that, but it's also worth mentioning there is some good fruit and nuttiness as well that makes for a tasty dessert wine.
