More than a century later, in 1987, the Claro Group acquired the brand to take it into a new direction. In 1992 a new winery was built and new vineyards were planted, to produce the best quality wines from Chile, and export them worldwide. Carmen has been recognised for its quality and for being a pioneer in the Chilean wine industry. As an example, the Carmenére grape was discovered amongst Carmen vineyards. Additionally the winery has been the leader producer of wines from organically grown grapes through its Nativa brand. Today, Viña Carmen is one of the most important Chilean wineries in the premium wine segment. It exports to more than 50 countries, which represents 94% of the total production. Read less

Deep garnet at the core, the wine lightens toward the rim. Lifted aromas waft from the glass. Sweet tobacco, mashed mulberries, bay leaf and safron mingle on the nose and incorporate stir-fried mushrooms, fresh-turned earth and aloe on the palate. The mouthfeel exhibits moderate extraction with light viscosity – just enough to make this a better food than sipping wine. There’s solid, supporting acidity. The powdery tannins show enough intensity to provide a light drying sensation on the modest finish.

Deep red, smooth and rich, dark chocolate, plums and blackcurrants with a touch of spice - yum!

Nice Carmenere for the value for sure. Starts off with light sour cherry, but quicky becomes a deeper darker fruit and finishes to a little pepper and perhaps a little green pepper. There is a little smoothness due to oak.

This wine is a thin wine. It is very subtle in its way of revealing the different tastes this wine has to offer. When smelling one first notes very ripe cherry’s (amarena cherries) but later this turns to cassis. The taste however is completely different. Different kinds of licorice come forward, maybe a hint of laurel? But the original grape flavor is still there too! (lightly sweet cassis) The wine has quite a bit of tannins but it is a fun wine to drink. Not a very hard hitting top-end wine... but a wine you, as a lover can enjoy, but your less educated (in wine!) guests can also appreciate as a "good" wine. Even though I am still a beginner myself in the world of wine I feel confident you will taste the same.

Intensives Rubin.
