Carmelo Patti is the Italian-born winemaker of the boutique Argentinian wine Bodega El Lagar in Lujan de Cuyo, Mendoza. He is said to be “...a winemaking legend in Mendoza – very nearly a one-man army, he makes all his wines single-handedly and with all the attention and care of a true master-craftsman.” The “winery” tours take place in his warehouse. There is no tasting room, no vineyard to wander around in. But many visitors have described their positive experience chatting with him personally about his wines and getting an insight into his techniques (one of which is to “hold” the wine for 4-5 years before release, when he decides it’s “ready.”).
