Carmelo Patti Cabernet Sauvignon Lujan de Cuyo 2007

Winemaker's Notes:

"The 2007 Cabernet Sauvignon from Perdriel feels very classical, aromatic, and minty, with notes of paprika, brick dust and a leafy sensation with elegance and complexity. Carmelo likes to sell wines that are ready to drink, and this one certainly is, with developed aromas and a polished texture. He always gets his grapes from the same vineyard and the wines are pretty consistent across vintages. The textbook Cabernet tannins are there, and so is the freshness and supple flavors. This is a great, classical Cabernet from the classical zone for the grape in Mendoza." ~Wine Advocate

Carmelo Patti is the Italian-born winemaker of the boutique Argentinian wine Bodega El Lagar in Lujan de Cuyo, Mendoza. He is said to be “...a winemaking legend in Mendoza – very nearly a one-man army, he makes all his wines single-handedly and with all the attention and care of a true master-craftsman.” The “winery” tours take place in his warehouse. There is no tasting room, no vineyard to wander around in. But many visitors have described their positive experience chatting with him personally about his wines and getting an insight into his techniques (one of which is to “hold” the wine for 4-5 years before release, when he decides it’s “ready.”). And of course tasting the wines.  Read less

Nice complexity here with savory mineral notes of loamy earth, baking spice and classic black fruit components - mostly black currant and blackberry. Silky, sultry and elegant on the palate with deep fruit notes of black cherry, black current and blackberry, a bit jammy but still quite fresh. This is ten years young today and drinking beautifully, enough age to smooth out any edges and produce creamy textured coffee and chocolate notes, fresh acidity and a plummy, pleasant medium finish. 93 pts
