Carlton Cellars Pinot Noir Cape Lookout 2012

Member Review by RPerro:

Weak showing. Not much fruit, and a somewhat bitter green finish. I'm not impressed, even with such a young example.

Welcome to Carlton Cellars. We're an artisanal Winery, Vineyard & Tasting Room in the heart of Oregon wine country, passionate about making premium Pinot Noir and other fine wines in the Willamette Valley handcraft tradition. Since 2001 we’ve made the celebrated Roads End Oregon Pinot Noir in small runs sought after by critics and connoisseurs alike. In 2007 our Estate Vineyard began producing enough first-class fruit for us to introduce our first estate Pinot. That was also the year we opened up our own Winery and Tasting Room. In the years since then our wine list has expanded to include three award-winning Pinot Noirs and several acclaimed whites, including our Sauvignon Blanc, Pinot Gris, and — new in 2012 — Pinot Blanc, Auxerrois, and an Estate White Field Blend. Almost of our offerings are estate wines, which are LIVE certified — Carlton Cellars is currently only one of 30 Low Input Viniculture and Enology (LIVE) certified wineries in the state. Read less

Much better than the 2007 Roads End Pinot. More cherry fruit showing through, with some plum and bittersweet chocolate on the finish. Still quite young however. Give it another 6-12 months before thinking about drinking this one.

Smooth, nice sipping.

Starts off light-weight with subtle flavors delivering precise cinnamon-accented cherry notes that gain momentum as the transparent finish accelerates. A wine of complexity and grace. Drink now through 2018. HS Wine Spectator.

Carlton Cellars produces very small lots of high quality Oregon Pinot Noir. This 'Roads End' is their flagship wine and one to be proud of. The grapes are sourced from three vineyards, each in a different microclimate- Eola Hills, Dundee Hills and Yamhill-Carlton. Aged 10 months in 50% new French oak, this wine shows richness, depth and complexity. Two- plus years of bottle age have added dimension and an enticing earthiness to the bright raspberry overtones. Only 740 cases were produced so it's very limited. Get it while it's on sale.
