Carlisle Zinfandel Dry Creek Valley 2010
Welcome to Carlisle Winery & Vineyards! We are a small Sonoma County winery specializing in the production of old-vine, vineyard designated zinfandels and red Rhone varieties (syrah, grenache, mourvèdre, and petite sirah). While we like our wines to be bold, rich, and intensely flavored, each reflecting a sense of place, its origins in the vineyard, we also strive to create wines of balance, complexity, and perhaps most importantly, pleasure.
Editorial Reviews for Carlisle Zinfandel Dry Creek Valley
This has some chocolate, vanilla-laced oak on the nose along with a slightly beefy, licorice-tinged raspberry core of fruit and a slight candied cherry top note. Smooth and surprisingly bright on entry, this has lovely ripe tannins and a bit of heat on the palate supporting lightly brambly raspberry and blackberry fruit. The finish is bright, clear and long. Nice accents of toasted spices, vanilla and a touch cinnamon spice extend on the moderately long finish in balance with the raspberry and cherry fruit. 89pts
This is particularly intense aromatically with sweet brambly fruit and plenty of oak derived notes that recall chocolate chip cookies, gingerbread, baking spices, and chocolate. In the mouth this is very smooth with lots of alcohol that appears to blow off in the glass. The fruit is dark, rich and brambly with a nice sweet edge from the alcohol but that alcohol reappears on the finish. Lots of wine, maybe a bit too much. 88pts
Rich black fruit and coffee notes in the aroma, very oak driven but not overly oaky. The approach is soft and balanced, with red fruit and honey touches on the finish.
Classic dry creek dusty spice with dark red fruit throughout and a hint of pepper spice in the finish. Great wine, especially for the price.
