Our finest Sonoma County Syrah to date? Along with our 2006, we believe so. Composed of syrah from Rossi Ranch in Sonoma Valley, Papa’s Block in Russian River Valley, Steiner Vineyard on Sonoma Mountain, and a splash of yummy-ness from Paso Robles, any one of these components could have stood on its own as an outstanding wine. But blending them together? Pure magic! Bottled unfined and unfiltered.
Welcome to Carlisle Winery & Vineyards! We are a small Sonoma County winery specializing in the production of old-vine, vineyard designated zinfandels and red Rhone varieties (syrah, grenache, mourvèdre, and petite sirah). While we like our wines to be bold, rich, and intensely flavored, each reflecting a sense of place, its origins in the vineyard, we also strive to create wines of balance, complexity, and perhaps most importantly, pleasure.

A bold nose of dark, rich and fresh fruits is nicely accentuated by notes of woodspice, hung game and a nice dried vegetal tone. In the mouth this is smaller that one might expect but superbly polished and with great acidity and supple tannins giving it volume without weight. The bright flavors of black raspberry are edged in subtle chocolate, earth and tobacco tones but never interfere with the purity of the fruit expression. This is just damn fun to drink! 93pts
Dark purple in the glass. Fairly big introduction of dark fruit on entry. A very rich, mouth-filling wine. Savory and meaty mid-palate. Stiff tannin. Good acid. Surprisingly, nice and easy on the back of the throat. It may have many years in it, but drinking it now is a lot of fun.
Food Pairings for Carlisle Syrah Sonoma County
Dark garnet-purple with a magenta rim. High pitched, explosive aromas of blackberry, smoked game, black olives, and violets leap from the glass. Very Syrah! The wine enters full and rich, with flavors of blackberry and violet enveloping the tongue. Suave tannins from mid-palate through the finish provide plenty of clarity and cut. Delicious now, optimum drinking should be between release and 2017. (MRO – 3/15/11)
