Carlisle Papera Ranch Zinfandel 2011

Winemaker's Notes:

"After the devastating loss of the 2010 crop to the freak heat event of August 23rd and 24th, it was a huge relief to get the 2011 into tank. I’m sure owner Stuart Coulson felt the same! We weren’t sure how the 77-year-old vines would respond after the damage but man did they deliver the goods (nearly 2.4 tons to the acre!), resulting in a Papera that qualitatively rivals the 2009, one of our favorites to date. Picked October 1st. Twenty days on the skins. All French oak, 25% new. Unfined and unfiltered." -Winery

Carlisle’s 2011 Zinfandel Papera Ranch is all about red fruit, lifted aromatics and silky tannins. A highly representative, varietally expressive Zinfandel, the 2011 is utterly convincing. An exotic melange of dried roses, mint, wild flowers and sage rings out on the silky, polished finish. Anticipated maturity: 2016–2026.

Bright purple. Highly perfumed, spice-accented dark berry and incense aromas show impressive clarity and energy. Smooth and seamless on the palate, offering vibrant blackberry preserve and cherry-vanilla flavors and notes of candied flowers and allspice. Finishes with alluring sweetness and excellent length, leaving smoke and floral notes behind. These vines were reportedly planted in 1934.
