What to Expect

Oregon has only recently emerged as a source for premium wine and is winning fans over to their somewhat earthy style of Pinot Noir. With vineyards a bit cooler than most of California's, yet warmer still than Burgundy, Oregon's Pinot Noirs feature a synthesis of ripe fruit, ripe structure and transparency that draws on the strengths of both. The wines tend to have a touch of earthiness and a sense of transparency that many Pinots from California lack yet the fruit profile, full of dark berries, is decidedly warm-climate in nature.

Winemakers Notes

"Smooth, round, generous, and harmonious, layering its red plum, black currant and boysenberry flavors with a hint of cream and a touch of mint. This is lovely now, but should develop with cellaring. Drink now through 2016. --T.M."91 pointsThe Wine Spectator, (sneak preview of Dec. 15th, 2008)

Reviews

Cardwell Hills 2006 Estate Pinot Noir is the second best pinot noir I've ever had only second to 2005 and 2006 Cardwell Hill Estate Pinot Noir Reserve. Yes the wine is fruit forward and hedonistic. It also has everything you would expect from a great pinot noir. Cherry, raspberry, hints of vanilla, leather, and earth. This pinot noir is so rich and full of flavor that it might appeal more to a cabernet fan drinker more than a typical pinot noir fan

Fruit-forward Pinot Noir. Missing the earthiness of many northern Willamettte Valley Pinots. Nice finish. Interested in seeing how it cellars.

A deep, sultry aroma of ripe cherry, black raspberry, fine oolong tea and sweet spices continue on to the palate. Rich in texture, but at the same time it has a mouth-watering vibrance and ripe tannins that suggest a potential aging curve of at least a decade. Bravo!
