Cardella Barbera 2009

Editorial Review by Gregory Dal Piaz:

Fairly intense on the nose with notes of candied watermelon, wood spice, grilled meat and chalk all laying over waxy coconut and cherry fruit. Nicely textured in the mouth with nice volume and richness even though there’s plenty of acidity here. The flavors are lovely, cherry-fruited with hints of dark strawberry seeds and wood spice adding accent notes. Then, the acidity adds a wash of watermelon to the modest finish, which does show a hint of wood tannin. Not that complex but a nice effort with fine balance and attractive flavors. Finishes hard and bitter. 83pts

By fusing old world secrets with new world technologies, we believe we are able to make wines that are truly unique and unprecedented in the San Joaquin Valley. Our vineyards are managed by winemaker Nathan Cardella, which means that the wine making decisions for next years vintage are already being made in the vineyard today. Great wines start out in great vineyards and we are routinely making viticultural choices that fortify the quality our grapes. Read less

Coconut Rice Sweet Potato Cheesecake

RiceSelect's creamy Arborio gets blended with sweet potato, coconut milk and vanilla to create this decadent cheesecake. Pairs well with Saunternes; a white dessert wine that has hints of coconut from aging in oak barrels.
