Villa Antinori is a prominent wine estate in Tuscany, Italy. Wine has been produced by the Antinori family since they came to Florence in the 14th century. The family estate, Palazzo Antinori, was purchased in Tuscany in 1506, and later that century, banker and merchant Alessandro Antinori began to produce the wines made there commercially. Generations later, in 1928, Marquis Niccolò Antinori officially created the Villa Antinori brand, with the intention of producing an elegant Chianti fit for longevity. The wine was soon found in the cellars and on the tables of of some of the most prestigious houses, restaurants and hotels. In 1931, Villa Antinori began producing a white wine from Trebbiano, and in the 1980s, Chardonnay was added to the blend for elegance. In 2001, the estate added the production of Super Tuscans to their growing portfolio. In addition to table wines, Villa Antinori also produces sparkling wines, grappa and olive oil. Read less
