Capote Velho

Member Review by tommyvino:

This simple non-vintage Tempranillo is a Vinho de Mesa Tinto or Red Table Wine from Portugal. I don't know who the producer is but the national importer in the US is Aidil from New Jersey. It has nice aromas of violets, blackberry, and black cherry, with a touch of earthiness. Light to medium bodied, juicy acidity, low tannins, low alcohol (11.5% abv), very little to no oak aging, medium length on the finish. The palate is very fleshy with bright ripe fruit character. Your not gonna get a ton of complexity from this wine just nice pure fruit in a simple package which happens to be a 1 Liter bottle. That's a lot of wine for the $10 US I paid. Much better than any jug wine in the same price range that I've tasted from California. This will be my new cooking wine and base wine for making Sangria. If your looking for value I highly recommend this bottle, a perfect recession red that won't break the bank!!! 3.5/5

Outstanding value for such an inexpensive wine. Quite a surprise compared with most wines in this price range. Relatively smooth finish.
