Cape Mentelle, sister to Cloudy Bay, is one of the founding wineries of Margaret River. Soon after launch, the winery twice won the Jimmy Watson Trophy, Australia’s most prestigious wine award. Margaret River has limestone soils reminiscent of Bordeaux, and a climate tempered by ocean currents, resulting in expressive and well-structured wines.

Crisp, fresh. While I tend to think Pino gregios are too watery and savignon blancs can be too stongly grapefruit flavored -- this is a perfect compromise. It's refeshing, lovely.

Has excellent juicy vinosity on the mid-palate, flavours of lemon, gooseberry and grass all intermingling, the touch of barrel ferment barely noticeable; excellent balance and length for short term cellaring. Its bright green watery yellow in color, opening with a nose of citrus, a little grassy herbaceousness and some riper, mellow characters that I think comes from some barrel work. The nose is actually quite subdued - its going to need some patience to show the real herbaceous delineation. That nose is incessantly pure and bounding with freshness. The palate follows with tight citrussy fruit & very dry, fierce acidity. It makes the palate very fresh, but its not for someone looking for subtlety. This is a very dry, intense, tight and powerful white that is dominated by grape fruity acidity, with hidden delights still to come.
