Canvasback Napa Valley 2005
Comments from the WinemakerThis enticing blend offers lush, mouth-filling fruit and lively acidity balanced by a firm structure and fine tannins. The aromatics are rich and complex, with layers of dusty rose, black pepper and raspberry supported by notes of leather, smoke and spice. On the palate, flavors of ripe black cherry, blackberry and blueberry combine with elements of mint, red currant and sage, lead to a long and satisfying finish.Varietal Content63% Syrah21% Grenache11% Carignane 5% Cabernet Sauvignon
Co-founded by Dan and Margaret Duckhorn in 1976, Duckhorn Vineyards has spent a quarter century establishing itself as one of North America's premier producers of Bordeaux varietal wines. From its modest inaugural vintage of 800 cases of Cabernet Sauvignon and 800 cases of Merlot in 1978, to its addition of Sauvignon Blanc in 1982, Duckhorn Vineyards has crafted a tradition of quality and excellence that continues today.
This was my favorite of all the Duckhorn wines. This is a fun wine. I don't think it represents great value, but it sure is tasty.
Loved this! Very complex on both nose and palate: earthy, minerally, leathery, cherry, and blackberry. This was a pleasure to drink! One half glass off for the price point - a little spendy. Would definitely buy again to have in the cellar, though!
