Cantina del Pino Dolcetto d'Alba 2015
Editorial Review by Gregory Dal Piaz:
Ferments for five to six days, all SS Tight, musky and a bit reduced on the nose. With air this reveals earthy aromas with some geranium notes and a little smokiness. In the mouth this is very open, very juicy, and in a rather fruity style with good acidity but not a bright cutting acid. Fresh in the mouth, this is quite complex and while the fruit has a candied edge to it, theres a lot of savory sweet spice, earthy, slightly woodland toned nuance adding complexity here. This is pretty natural feeling, neither lean and aggressive nor big and plush it falls right in the middle of the style spectrum with lots of depth to the fresh cherry and dark raspberry fruit, finishing with a nice blend of acidity, fruit tannin and a little chewy fat and aromatic violet and sand inner mouth perfumes. 90pts

"This land has been in my family for generations and these vineyards are some of the best in Barbaresco. From the time I was a young boy I worked year round in these vineyards and I understand that without superior grapes you can't make superior wine. I know how lucky I am. Pretty on the nose with a hint of cheesiness and subtle layers of floral and minerals adding detail to the core of black raspberry fruit. A touch lean in the mouth, though with an edge of sweetness to the fruit, this shows off nice acids and crisp if small tannins supporting bright wild raspberry fruit with a touch of wild cherry. The finish is modest showing a minty aspect and tannins that turn a touch drying. 87pts
Firmly and richly fruited on the nose with a tight core of sliced plum and wild cherry fruit framed by dusty soil notes and topped with a hint of mint. Elegant on entry and a little sweetly fruity though clear on the palate with more depth and power than the 2010. The flavors lean a bit towards the balsamic end of the spectrum with a nice hint of rosemary on the backend. Fine acids and ripe tannins offering nice support right through the strong finish which shows good fruit and complexity,. This has a lovely flavor profile and a crisp texture but it is rather understated. 88pts
Lovely on the nose, still with a certain sweetness to the warm red berry slight jammy toned cherry fruit backed up by rose petals, and a nice limestone note. This is already easy to drink, soft and slightly creamy, rich without being weighty while delivering raspberry and wild berry fruit on the palate with a nice classic mineral accent. The tannins turn a touch dry on the backend which leads to an elegant yet powerful finish which shows fine fruit driven aromatics along with hints of coffee cream and a slightly roasted fruit character. 89pts
graham cracker and beef nose, some liquory medicinal herb tones, nicely put together, still tight and youthful, good freshness and density to the slightly astringent red cherry fruit, wild raspberry, slightly spicy, slightly herbal peppery, nice crisp tannin, ice feel, good sweetness on the palate, not vulgar, nice mineral bitter background note very clear
AWE blind tasting - deep and penetrating with herbal, weedy tones that show off the peachy berry fruit very well, there is a bit of cola sweetness here but there’s also a ton of that attractive, herbal complexity – very soft in the mouth with a lovely bitter cherry, apricot pit tone to the fruit, nice chalk and medicinal tones follow with herb and floral notes leading to the finish which is brisk and transparent, a touch rustic but very attractive 89-90
Richly fruited with an early touch of chocolate on the nose followed by hints of sotto bosco, woodsy wild red berry fruit and a touch of lead pencil. Still a touch reticent in the mouth, this shows how these wines might evolve. The fruitiness fades away a bit leaving fruit that is less sweet complemented by complex notes of soil, rust, and roses. Theres some raspberry coulis on the backend but this shows good clarity and nice tension in the mouth with a long, though slightly pasty finish. 89pts

Add your reviewRelatively light, leathery brown-purple color. Awesome sophisticated nose, impressive complexity, medium bodied, very acidic. Despite all that, it just doesn't taste very good. Drinkable with food.

Piedmont, ItalyWine Advocate 92 points!Cantina del Pino Barbaresco is a wonderful expression of the Nebbiolo grape from the Barbaresco appellation, located one hour from Torino in the famous Langhe region of Piedmont. Barbaresco sits high above the Tanaro River, where wine grapes grow alongside truffles, hazelnuts and chestnuts. The family of owner/winemaker Renato Vacca has lived in this region for generations. The family's Barbaresco vineyards range from 35 to 70 years in age, bringing depth and complexity to the wines. Antonio Galloni for Parker's Wine Advocate raved about the Cantina del Pino wines: "Proprietor Renato Vacca continues to show he has the magic touch. I would be thrilled to drink any of these magnificent wines." Monica Larner for Wine Advocate scored this wine 92 points. We think it's a gorgeous red wine gem!Cantina del Pino Barbaresco is rich, round and enveloping. Warm southern exposure and a higher percentage of clay in the soil gives this wine structure, rich color and ripeness. There is a wonderful dark red fruit complemented by spices, dried flowers and roses which add complexity on the palate. The intensity of the fruit covers the tannins nicely, and with time the wine's power becomes more evident. Aged in oak barrels for 24 months followed by 2 years in bottles, this big red will reward several years of cellaring and drink best from 2018-2030. It is harmonious and rich with a lingering finish.Enjoy Cantina del Pino Barbaresco with osso buco, lasagna, veal chops and aged cheeses.
