What to Expect

"Black and bitter" in Italian, not surprisingly Negroamaro has origins in the Southern Italy's Puglia region and is an important grape both on its own and as a blending grape. It contributes a rich, slightly rustic mouthfeel to a finished wine imbued with a slightly burnt, earthy quality that accentuates deep, roasted plum and mocha toned fruit.

Reviews

I so enjoyed this wine - make sure it's the Riserva. Salice Salentino is the DOC and the wine is made from Negroamaro. A dark garnet color, nice berry fruit and long finish. We were lucky to see the 2002 on an Italian restaurant menu. We choose the pasta dish with a slightly creamy tomato sauce with ground lamb. Delicioso!

It is a rich and rustic red wine and the Ca'ntele Riserva version is a good example of this food friendly wine. The color is a deep ruby red and it yields full-bodied aromas of cherries, plums, spices, and earthy minerals. The wine greets you with a dry but balanced palate of smoky cherry-plum fruit, spicy pepper, and tea flavors. Flavors evolve around fine tannins and bright acidity lending this common wine an air of nobility and grace.
