We have just sampled this wine for the first time recently and very much liked it. It will become part of our regular primitivo selection.
Fairly astringent nose. Its powerfully tart, alcoholic and acidic. Some earthiness and stewed overripe fruits in there, but its out of balance, and below average. Its still perfectly drinkable and with food would probably be okay.
not balanced - too acidic. berry flavors but overpowered by alcohol on the nose.
I thought this was decently tasty.
I opened this bottle last night. Let it breathe an hour. Poured through aerator. It was sub-par. Not much aroma other than alcohol. Taste was 90% tobacco 10% earth (aka dirt). It was better with dinner than alone (halibut). I recorked it and put it the fridge (56deg) overnight. Much better today. Smell of some berry and MUCH less tobacco taste and almost no finish at all. 2 is a little generous, but I'm a VERY nice person despite what all the people I know say....
Cantele '05 Primitivo Had our first bottle last night and it won't be our last. Great taste and great value.

A chunky, plummy red from Apulia in Southern Italy. Great for everyday drinking.
A deep, intense red color, full bodied with a unique mineral bouquet and undertones of cherries and plums.
feine, leicht würzige Blume, harmonischer Körper, langanhaltend.
Dunkel, fast violettrot in der Farbe. Im Bouquet ausgeprägt würzige (Wachholder) und maulbeerige Noten. Kraftvoller, langer Ausklang.
An amazing bargain at $11, this is dense, rich, powerful stuff, its tannins stretching through the spicy, mineral-laden red fruit like runnerrsquo;s muscles, long and strong. Drink it now with bacon-wrapped pork loin, but make sure to stash a few bottles in the cellar, too: this should hold well for at least another five years.
Deep inky-ruby. Sweet red cherry, plum jam and herbal aromas on the fresh nose. Ripe black cherry, blackberry jam and tobacco flavors display moderate intensity and length.
The 2006 Primitivo is a dense, dark beauty loaded with dark fruit, tar and flowers. This generous, inviting red is best enjoyed over the next year or two. It is a terrific value.
