Smoky oak meets juicy cherry in this meaty primitivo. Match the chewy tannins with burgers fresh off the grill.
An amazing bargain at $11, this is dense, rich, powerful stuff, its tannins stretching through the spicy, mineral-laden red fruit like runner's muscles, long and strong. Drink it now with bacon-wrapped pork loin, but make sure to stash a few bottles in the cellar, too: this should hold well for at least another five years.
Ripe and plummy, with dark, sculpted fruit and tons of it, this Primitivo is frisky as a Barbera, but fuller. Dynamite with hot sausage crumpled over pasta.
Bright red-ruby color. Spiced plum, currant and pepper on the vinous nose. Juicy and peppery in the mouth; offers the spice and cut of a particularly food-friendly Zinfandel, without any excess alcohol. A fairly light and smooth wine with juicy red berry and spice flavors and a firmly tannic finish.
Better known for it's rustic reds, this winery's 2000 Primitivo is a medium-bodied, straightforward, stainless steel-aged effort displaying sweet cherry fruit, balsam wood, soil, pepper, and herb characteristics. Meant for uncritical quaffing, it will provide pleasure over the next 2-3 years.
