Càntele Primitivo Salento IGT 2005

Winemaker's Notes:

"The 2005 Primitivo is another engaging wine with plenty of sweet, ripe fruit perfect for drinking over the next year or two. It spent 6 months in used oak barrels. It, too, is an outstanding value. Anticipated maturity: 2008-2010." - Antonio Galloni, Wine Advocate

Fairly astringent nose. Its powerfully tart, alcoholic and acidic. Some earthiness and stewed overripe fruits in there, but its out of balance, and below average. Its still perfectly drinkable and with food would probably be okay.

not balanced - too acidic. berry flavors but overpowered by alcohol on the nose.

I opened this bottle last night. Let it breathe an hour. Poured through aerator. It was sub-par. Not much aroma other than alcohol. Taste was 90% tobacco 10% earth (aka dirt). It was better with dinner than alone (halibut). I recorked it and put it the fridge (56deg) overnight. Much better today. Smell of some berry and MUCH less tobacco taste and almost no finish at all. 2 is a little generous, but I'm a VERY nice person despite what all the people I know say....

A chunky, plummy red from Apulia in Southern Italy. Great for everyday drinking.
